Find Parking Spaces and Garages In London

For those of you living in London, you may want to take note of this post. In a city so large, you probably find it extremely difficult to find a parking space that is close to where you live or work. If this is the case, you may want to consider Park Let's listings on parking spaces and garages in London. This is a perfect way to ensure that you have a safe and secure place to park, and the freedom to come and go as you please. Simply enter your post code or city and get a listing of car parks in your area. Find the one that best fits your needs, your budget and is nearest to your home or place of work. Perhaps you prefer a garage that has a concierge on duty 24 hours a day, or one that is underground. Whichever the case may be, you can find what you're looking for at Park Let.

The listings at http://www.parklet.co.uk/parking/London/129.aspx will give you all the information you will need on each garage or car park in London that is near your preferred area. It will even tell you how far you will have to walk to the nearest tube or railway station. You can filter your search by contract type, whether you want a garage or parking space, and/or by the date the listings were added. If you prefer to buy a space instead of renting one, there is an option to filter the listings for that too. Park Let is an all-around excellent resource for finding just the right parking spaces or garages to suit your needs.

Journey Has A New Singer, And Man, Is He Good!

I have been a huge fan of Journey since I was a teenager in the '80s. They were my favorite band for many years. I even got the opportunity to see them live in concert back in '83. I was sad to see Steve Perry leave the band. I was so in LOVE with him back in the day! I always thought he had such a unique voice, and there was no one in the world like him...until now.

Last week, I heard on one of those entertainment news shows that Journey guitarist, Neal Schon was surfing YouTube looking for a new singer for the band and came across The Zoo Band from the Philippines, and could not believe his ears, and neither could I when I heard them. The singer for The Zoo Band, Arnel Pineda sounds EXACTLY like Steve Perry. Neal Schon contacted the band, and at first they thought it was a joke, but he finally convinced him he was the real thing, and soon after Arnel auditioned for the job and was hired as Journey's new lead singer! Is that crazy, or what???

Well, naturally I had to go to YouTube to check out The Zoo Band's videos, and I was completely floored! Here are two of my favorites. Enjoy! I sure did!

Quality Bar Stools

My mother-in-law and I were talking the other day about the bar she has set up in her den, and she had expressed the desire to replace the old and unattractive bar stools she has. So this morning I was surfing the net for some quality bar stools and ran across a place where you can get bar stools from leading manufacturers at discount prices. It took me a while to find this one, but I finally did. This cam version is very good, though there are a few places in there where something gets in the way, but only for a few seconds. I enjoyed this movie very much, and I think any fan of Martin Lawrence will like this one.

This movie also stars James Earl Jones, Cedric the Entertainer, Mike Epps and Mo'Nique.

A Great Resource For Indian Models

I know I have some Indian readers here at Spiral Journal, because I have heard from a few of you. Today, while I was surfing around for Indian fashion, for which I have a personal affinity, I ran across NewIndianModels.com and I thought it would be nice to post about it here for my Indian readers.

If you're in India and trying to get noticed in the modeling industry, I urge you to visit this site's forum for Indian models, specifically the Client requirements/Casting Calls board. This is where you are put in touch with clients in the advertising, modeling and even the film industries, who are looking for models, actors and artists. I visited that board today, and there are many assignments posted there, so it is well worth checking out. Males, females and even child models can post their photos and get noticed. If you don't yet have a portfolio, there is a Resources section at the forum where you can find photographers offering great deals on portfolio shoots. Some of them are new and offering to shoot your portfolio for free in order to get started on theirs. You can also find modeling agencies, makeup artists, and hair stylists. So be sure and visit the forum.

At NewIndianModels.com you will also find a very informative blog that offers tips and advice on Indian clothes as well as jewelry and fashion, as well as the latest entertainment news from Indian, Bollywood, and Hindi movies.

NewIndianModels.com is an excellent resource, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in Indian fashion.

Orlando Bloom Romancing Rumer Willis

Yes, that's right! Orlando Bloom, 31, was spotted out with 19-year-old Rumer Willis, the oldest daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis at Prince's "purple" Oscars party on Sunday, February 24. One source said, "The chemistry between them was electric. They were all over each other and didn't seem to care who saw them." This guy really gets around, because just last week, he was seen making out with Victoria's Secret model, Miranda Kerr, who is rumored to be dating the gorgeous "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor. They were reportedly buying two mocha hot chocolates at New York's Max Brenner Chocolate café. Another source said, "They made out the entire time they were waiting in the line. They only had eyes for each other." So will Rumer be Miranda's new competition? Who knows? All I can say is they are both VERY LUCKY GIRLS!

Evaluate Your Lease With Shrewd Lease

Lately, I have been tossing around the idea of leasing a new Ford Mustang. The problem is that I have never leased a vehicle, so I am not too savvy when it comes to leasing. I needed to find a place that would show me the different factors I need to look at when shopping around for a car and help me compare lease offers so I can find the one that meets my needs. In other words, I needed to find some sort of Lease Tool. So, after doing a little digging this morning, I came across exactly what I was looking for.

Shrewd Lease allows you to enter all the numbers involved in leasing a vehicle, such as the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP), monthly payment, annual mileage allowance, etc. It will then evaluate all the numbers and generate a report and calculate a Shrewd Lease Factor. (If you're not sure what some of the numbers are, Shrewd Lease explains them in a way that is easy to understand). The Shrewd Lease Factor is extremely helpful in evaluating your lease offers. If you get a low number, you should look elsewhere for other lease offers. For instance, the Shrewd Lease Factor I got on one of the lease offers I found online for a 2008 Ford Mustang was 3.91. As you can see, according to the graph below, that is way below average.

Not Shrewd Average Very Shrewd

My report gave me advice on what I should do about this low number:
"Your ShrewdLease factor of 3.91 is way below average! This lease offer could not be considered anywhere near a shrewd lease! Unless your dealer/lender can come up with big improvements, ShrewdLease suggests you find a different vehicle, dealer or leasing company. Bear in mind, the car itself may not be completely to blame. It could just be the lemon of a lease. Your hard earned money will be better spent elsewhere!"
Throughout the report, there are explanations about terms you may not understand, advice on what your numbers should be, and tips on how to negotiate lease offers with dealers. If I had not run across this site, and analyzed the numbers, I may have thought I was getting a good deal, simply because I am not knowledgeable about leasing. I may as well have thrown money out the window! That is why this site is so important to me and others like me, who have little or no experience with vehicle leasing. Shrewd Lease is an excellent place to start if you want to learn how to become a shrewd lease negotiator. And it's free, so I urge you to visit this site before you make any lease decisions.

Misheard Lyrics to "Yellow Ledbetter" by Pearl Jam

As promised in a previous post, I hunted down the "misheard lyrics" videos for Pearl Jam's "Yellow Ledbetter." There are, in fact, three misheard lyrics videos for "Yellow Ledbetter." I guess it's only natural that people have made them. As I said before, this is one of the most difficult to understand songs of all time. I mean, come on! Is he really saying words? Eddie, Eddie, Eddie... SPEAK ENGLISH!

I am thinking of making this a regular topic here at Spiral Journal. I enjoy hunting for them, and watching them, but the problem is that it doesn't quite work as well with bands who sing clearly. It seems to only have that humorous kick to it if you can't understand what the singer is saying. So I guess we'll just see how it goes.

I just couldn't decide which one I liked the best, so I'm posting all of them here. If you want to watch other misheard lyrics videos, click this link right here, and knock yourself out. Which one of these videos do you like the best? Leave a comment and let me know!

Full Movie

Starring Anton Yelchin, Robert Downey, Jr., Hope Davis and Kat Dennings.

Synopsis
Wealthy teenager Charlie Bartlett is failing miserably at fitting in at a new public high school run by the world-weary Principal Gardner. As he begins to better understand the social hierarchy, Charlie's honest charm and likability positions him as the resident "psychiatrist" dishing out advice, and the occasional prescription with his partner and fellow student, Murphy Bivens, to other students in need. Along the way, he decides to take some of his own advice, find romance, and learn to accept who he is, thus wielding a witty dark comedy about the angst-filled years before college.

Misheard Lyrics to "Black" by Pearl Jam

I so enjoy to browsing, watching, listening to the "misheard lyrics" videos at YouTube. Some of them are absolutely hilarious. But this morning, I stumbled across this one totally by accident as I was looking for Pearl Jam videos to watch. Pearl Jam is one of my all-time favorite bands, (second only to Pink Floyd), but you have to admit that Eddie Vedder isn't the easiest person in the world to understand. Take the lyrics to Yellow Ledbetter...what the heck is he talking about? Does anyone know? Oooh, that reminds me, I should go find a misheard lyrics version of that one too! I'll post it here at Spiral Journal if I find one. Anyway, without further ado, here are the misheard lyrics to Pearl Jam's "Black." Check it out...and enjoy.

Cheap Flights To Canada

My husband, Charlie and I are coming up on our second anniversary next month. We are hoping to be able to take a second honeymoon, (not that we had a first one), and we've been tossing around the idea of going to Niagara Falls. I know it sounds cliché, but seriously, it's such a beautiful and romantic place, there really isn't any better place for a honeymoon. I know you're thinking it will be expensive, but you know me, I'm always hunting for a bargain or a discount. So while surfing around this morning, I came across cheap flights to Canada from DialAFlight.com. Their rates are very competitive, and all I will have to do to book a flight with them is call and talk to one of their consultants, and they will verify that everything is in order, and soon we will be off to Canada. By talking to a real human being, I can rest assured that we will get exactly the vacation we want. Have you been planning a vacation to Canada? If so, I urge you to check out their website and see what I'm talking about.

"The Bourne Ultimatum" Wins Two Sound Editor Honors

It was nice to see that the sound editing team from "The Bourne Ultimatum" won two awards in the feature film categories Saturday evening at the Motion Picture Sound Editors 55th Anniversary Golden Reel Awards. The film won the categories for dialogue and ADR, and sound effects and Foley. It thought all the "Bourne" movies were excellent, and I hope this won't be the last one. Matt Damon is one heck of an actor and I would love to see him reprise the role of Jason Bourne once again. But even if he doesn't, I'm sure we'll see him again very soon in something equally as exciting as the "Bourne" films.

Worth1000.com's Top "Mate An Album" Gallery

My husband is very much into photo manipulation and he is always showing me cool websites he visits, but the most interesting place he has shown me thus far is definitely Worth100.com. This is a site that holds Photoshop contests. Each contest has a theme. One of the themes I like the most is the ones where they "Mate" certain topics together. For instance, they take two movies, websites, or albums and "mate" them. Today, I was looking at the "Mate An Album" gallery, and here are some of my faves:

Jay Z - Blueprint2...The Gift and the Curse (Roc-A-Fella Records)
Stevie Ray Vaughan - The Essential (Sony Music)

OMG...this is so funny!

Pearl Jam - rearviewmirror
Hootie and the blowfish - Cracked Rear View

Alan Parsons + Dolly Parton = Dolly Parsons
Alan Parsons-The Definitive Collection (c.1997 Arista)

LOL! Snoop Doggy Doors!

The Doors
Snoop Dogg

Heehee! HoobaSKANK!

Hoobastank
Courtney Love

There are tons more of these, way too many to post here. Get over there and check them out and if you're any good at this sort of thing, (I'm not - at least not YET...heh!), get in on some of their contests. Let me know if you do, so I can see your work!

"I Don't Love You Enough" by Andy Lau and Kelly Chen

Here's a BEAUTIFUL song by Andy Lau and Kelly Chen. I believe it is in Chinese. Correct me if I'm wrong. It's so sensual and sexy. That Andy Lau sort of reminds me of an Asian Johnny Depp. But that's just my opinion. He is very nice looking, though, isn't he? I have no idea what they are saying, but it's just such a pretty song. Give it a listen, ok?

As always, I'm here to pass along a great way I have found for you to save money. If you're looking for cheap laptop computers from HP Shopping, Dell, Tiger Direct, BestBuy.com or CircuitCity.com, I have just the place for you. At OfficeDeals.info, there are literally hundreds of coupons on a wide variety of office supplies, equipment, computers and much more.

My printer has been out of ink for over a year and a half, and I was looking for an ink cartridge for it, and of course, I was also looking for a way to save money on it, because those things can tend to get expensive. When I came across OfficeDeals.info, I was so happy to find out I can get 15% off! That's not too shabby.

I have also been in the market for a camcorder, because my husband and I have some cool ideas on some music videos we'd like to produce and put up on the internet for our family and friends to enjoy. and you can imagine how happy I was to find out I can get a discount of up to $120! That's fantastic! This means we will finally be able to afford one very soon.

My husband's monitor is very old and the screen is small and we've been thinking of buying one of those flat panel monitors - at least a 20-inch. Well, guess what? I will be able to get $45 off a 20-inch, or $60 off a 24-inch!

This site is awesome and I urge you to check it out if you are in need of any office supplies or equipment. You'll save all kinds of money if you do.

Orlando Bloom To Go Indy

Things have been a little quiet for Orlando Bloom since he finished the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. Now, rather than leap into another blockbuster, he's taken the interesting step of signing up for a much smaller independent movie.

Bloom will take a supporting role in "An Education," the latest film by Lone Scherfig, which is described by Variety as a coming-of-age film set in 1960s London. The story follows newcomer Kate Mulligan as a witty 17-year-old who's whisked into a romance by a high-flying 30-something (Peter Sarsgaard). There's no word on who Bloom will play, but the cast also includes Alfred Molina, Rosamund Pike, Emma Thompson and Olivia Williams.

Nick Hornby wrote the script for the film, which is set to shoot in London in March and April.

Are You Ready To Go Green?

All of us humans living on this rock need to be protective of our planet Earth, because she's the only one we got. I know that with all the talk in the news of global warming, it has made me a little more environmentally conscious. So, my husband and I have decided to start taking steps toward doing our part in taking care of Mother Earth.

I ran across a very cool site this morning that I wanted to tell you about called GreenAndMore.com. They have a wide variety of green products to choose from. If you're wondering what the term "green product" means, it just means a product that is eco-friendly. Some of the products I found interesting were the gadgets. They have an awesome solar powered charger that you can use to power up your car, boat or motorcycle battery. There are literally hundreds of green products at this site. Everything from air purifiers to shower filters.

One of the best things about GreenAndMore.com is they have a "Show Me How To" section on their site. So if you're getting ready to go green, and you're not sure where to start, they can show you how to do it one step at a time. They'll show you how to choose green products, how to green your yard and your transportation, and what you can do at home. And if you want to go solar, they have tons of information on that. There are seven pages of solar FAQs, just to get you started!

If you're thinking along the same lines as I am, and you are ready to go green, don't wait any longer. Check out GreenAndMore.com - they are a fantastic place to start and a great resource for green products and information.

Watch "Vantage Point" (2008) Online For Free

Wow! I was really surprised to find this one! And the quality is fantastic! It loads very fast because it's hosted at a good place. This movie has an all-star cast - Sigourney Weaver, Dennis Quaid, Forest Whitaker, and William Hurt, to name a few. Now, go grab some popcorn and enjoy the show!

Synopsis
With a Rashomon narrative style, the attempted assassination of the president is told from five different perspectives.

Here's a review I found at Rolling Stone:

For about half an hour, before the movie crashes and burns in a bonfire of exaggeration and stupidity overkill, Vantage Point shapes up as a nifty ride. Never heard of the director Pete Travis (though the name sounds familiar), but the guy knows how to pump the action pedal — hell, he floors it. We’re in Spain, in a town square where the U.S. Prez (William Hurt) is about to give a noontime speech on global terrorism. A network TV unit, headed by Sigourney Weaver, is recording the event for posterity. A network friend of mine hated this scene (“Three people running an historic peace conference broadcast from a single production truck ON SITE? Nonsense.”) If you’re a stickler for pesky facts this is not the movie for you.

Anyway, Weaver is looking for something to ward off boredom, when — boom! — someone takes a shot at the President and the building behind him blows up. What the hell? For the rest of the movie, Travis rewinds the event from six different — cue the title — vantage points. There’s Dennis Quaid as a Secret Service agent modeled on Clint Eastwood’s In the Line of Fire character minus the complexity. Next to him is his boss (Matthew Fox, looking lost outside of Lost). And, look, over there, it’s last year’s Oscar winner Forest Whitaker as a tourist with a restless camcorder. And so it goes, making so many impossible demands on us to suspend disbelief that the audience should demand combat pay. By the end, Vantage Point is such a unholy mess of drooling sentiment and sloppy loose ends that you’ll hate yourself for being suckered in.

Watch Rambo (2008) Online For Free!

I tried to watch this movie a few weeks ago at another location, but the quality was horrible, so I gave up on it. Fortunately, I have found one that is much better, and yep, it's a great movie. I love Sylvester Stallone in anything. He's so SEXY! Even for an old guy!

I checked all the links and they are all working. These links are hosted at Tudou, and it may load very slowly for you. Don't get frustrated. Give it a little time to load up. What I do is let Part One load, (usually will take about 10 minutes, give or take), and while I'm watching Part One, I open Part Two and let it load...and so on. Anyway, enjoy!

Top ‘Guy Candy’ to look for at the Oscars

Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Viggo Mortensen are just a few to look out for

This year marks the 80th anniversary of Hollywood’s biggest night, the Academy Awards, and while the women usually make the headlines for their fabulous fashions, some of us prefer to gawk at the guys.

So which gentlemen will have the “Access Hollywood” women craning our necks to get a glimpse on the red carpet? Find out as we present our list of the “Top Guy Candy of Oscars 2008.”

10. Jon Stewart: Though he’s likely to bustle in rather quickly thanks to his job as presenter of the famed awards show, Stewart takes our No. 10 slot for not only being uproariously funny, but for turning — in recent years — into a silver fox.

9: Josh Brolin: Diane Lane is one lucky lady. She’s been married to the ruggedly handsome son of actor James Brolin since 2004. On Oscar night, the younger Brolin will no doubt swagger up the red carpet as only this motorcycle-riding man can, as his film “No Country For Old Men” faces off for best picture.

8. Javier Bardem: The sexy Spaniard and rumored flame of Penelope Cruz is up for a best supporting actor Oscar for his performance in “No Country For Old Men.” “Access,” however, will be most interested to see if the 39-year-old will be sporting his trademark stubble or if he’ll go for a close, smooth shave as he walks the red carpet in a dapper suit.

7. Colin Farrell: It’s been a while since we’ve had the pleasure of drooling over roguish Irishman Farrell, but we’ll finally get our fix as he heads in to help present an award at the Oscars. While we may not understand a word he tells the cameras, we are more than happy to swoon over him.

6. Viggo Mortensen: Whether he’s playing hobbit protector or ruthless killer, Mortensen is nothing short of steamy on the screen. On Sunday, look for this best actor nominee (for “Eastern Promises”) to bring his steely stare and overwhelming intensity to the red carpet.

5. James McAvoy: It’s the second year in a row that the sultry Scotsman narrowly missed out on an Oscar nomination (“Last King of Scotland” and “Atonement”), but we expect nothing to faze him as he strolls into the Oscars. Look out for his dreamy, deep blue eyes, which might make you forget for a moment that he is happily taken by his wife, actress Anne-Marie Duff. Sigh.

4. Denzel Washington: It’s hard to complete a Guy Candy list without including Washington. Even your grandma is likely to get a hot flash as the consummate thespian steps out in style on Sunday. He’ll be out in support of “American Gangster,” which is up for best art direction, while his co-star Ruby Dee is up for best supporting actress.

3. Patrick Dempsey: “Grey’s Anatomy” may have rekindled our obsession with sweet, floppy-haired Dempsey, but his movies keep us weak in the knees. “Enchanted,” in which he starred alongside Amy Adams, is up for best original song three times over, so no doubt he’ll have an extra spring in his step on Oscar night.

2. Johnny Depp: In the last year, we’ve been reminded why we love Johnny Depp so much — he’s a consummate actor (he’s up for best actor for “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street”), a doting dad (he has two children he can’t stop talking about) and he’s got a sense of humor. Plus, he’s one hell of a snappy dresser. From his overflowing locks, to his sophisticated suits, Depp adds a major dose of red carpet sex appeal that makes us melt.

1. George Clooney: He may have said he stands little chance of winning the best actor Oscar for his role in “Michael Clayton,” but Clooney is easily our favorite. He’s always impeccably dressed, well groomed and quite simply — sexy. Clooney adds to his attractiveness factor by bringing with him a host of witty barbs he often tosses to our “Access Hollywood” hosts. But we really love gawking at Clooney because in Guy Candy land, no one can resist a man who’s not only drop dead gorgeous, but funny as well.

Viggo Mortensen Wearing His Heart On His Sleeve

Oscar nominee known for wearing his heart, and his politics, on his sleeve

Is that a yawn? OK, so Viggo Mortensen's yawning. He's seriously tired and in some kind of mood, and let's respect that, roll with it, because the hours he's keeping here in New Mexico have just been preposterous.

First, there are the 4:00 a.m. wake-up calls he's grimly endured on the set of “Appaloosa.” And the locals hired to work Mortensen's cowboy picture (who plainly adore him) say they've never seen such a hard-partying cast and crew as the Appaloosans, and God only knows what happened last night, but there he goes again. Another yawn. This is his only day off and it kind of got shot and he didn't get to do some stuff he really wanted to do, and then, his obscure Argentine-concert CD got stuck in the player inside his trailer, because he's never not two-timing the movies with all the rest of his esoteric interests. Some union characters finally smashed the thing open and fished the CD out and he tipped them mighty good, but he's still got an hour-and-a-half drive ahead of him back to Santa Fe in his Dodge pickup — that is, after he figures out just where and how we're going to while away the next few hours together.

The frostbite-blue eyes snap onto mine for a split second. If the brow is a two-way mirror to the soul, his is cracked in several places by Despair and Inner Torment. Mortensen is justly celebrated in Hollywood for how he telegraphs both, which are reading in his face right now. A face rendered (almost) unrecognizable with that distracting droop of a Wild West mustache, the familiar starburst cleft in his chin forested over by a neat beard. In his black skullcap and flannel shirt, jeans and dirt-caked Tasmanian sheep-station boots, Mortensen, 49, has the sullen affect of a man who's just found a ticket on his windshield.

There had been talk of a country drive, but the sun hit the deck at 5:00 p.m., and so we trudge upstairs at the Abiquiu Inn, a 10-minute drive from Georgia O'Keeffe's Ghost Ranch, and attempt to make ourselves comfortable in this spare attic that is one of New Mexico's ubiquitous art galleries. Some folding chairs are produced.

His sideline business is coffee-table books — or perhaps that's Mortensen's principal business, and acting the actual sideline that supports a pretty expensive habit. A book is handed over, page after page filled with his photography and poetry and published by his own Perceval Press imprint back in Los Angeles (which he calls home). The work is meticulously accomplished and high-production-value, a library of drawings, paintings, photographs, and music by those he's talent-scouted over the years, some strangers, some friends (and even an ex-girlfriend, Julian Schnabel's daughter Lola). It is only when he contemplates Perceval Press's jammed-up assembly line that his voice, a shy, exhausted mumble at the moment, dials up a notch. "I have things I have to finish. Because of this movie, there are four books that my press didn't put out this fall. Which is not a big deal, but—." He sighs and his whole body seems to deflate as he considers the debut artists and authors he's let down.

At first, Mortensen is so fiercely contained that you can't help but wonder if he's one of those Method fanatics who prefers to live in character. He's been reading “The Life of John Wesley Hardin.” An outlaw and a gunslinger, Hardin once shot a man for snoring — but always claimed he never killed anyone who didn't need killing. In “Appaloosa,” Mortensen's a gun for hire, deputy to actor-director Ed Harris's marshal. "Sort of like a lethal butler" is how Mortensen sees his character, Everett Hitch. But you won't hear Hitch saying ain't like the rest of them: He's a West Point man — though without a doubt, the black sheep of the family. Or that's how Mortensen imagines him.

He's also bagged the lead in the screen adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's “The Road,” which director John Hillcoat, a newcomer from Australia, starts shooting this fall. "Now we just have to find a great kid," Mortensen says, referring to his putative costar, the boy who will play his boy, as imagined by the Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist. "That's going to make it. Or break it," he says. "Hopefully it won't totally depress people," he adds.

He didn't know McCarthy actually lives in Santa Fe. "Hunh. I should look him up. I'd be stupid not to," he says. (He's known for his Ph.D.-level research. Prepping for his next major release, “Good,” which wrapped several months ago, Mortensen tried to visit all the concentration camps in Poland to better play the film's lead, a university professor who finds himself tangled up in the issue of euthanasia in Nazi Germany. "They're kind of hard to get to, and I have to say, apart from Auschwitz, I don't think the Polish make it that easy to find them.")

In the McCarthy book, some nuclear episode has reduced the world to a gray-skied ash heap. A father and his only son wander the earth as hobos, survivalists trying to avoid a macabre fate as a feast for any of several roving bands of cannibals, Mortensen is saying, revving for book talk just as his tomato-and-mozzarella salad arrives, which he'll eat Indian-style on the hard wood floor. Food in the belly, he stretches out on the ground as if on some psychiatrist's chaise, his wool cap tucked under his head, eyes annealed to some comfortable middle distance. Arms remain folded across the chest, but answers miraculously turn essay length.

One reason he admires “The Road” is that the child teaches the father a thing or two, particularly about compassion. "You do learn from your kid, if you're open to it," Mortensen says. He has one son, Henry, from a while-ago only marriage to pink-haired punk-rock-pioneer Exene Cervenka. Now a sophomore attending a good college in New York City, Henry has a history-of-punk radio show he deejays. "I just think of myself at that age," says Mortensen, who wound up at St. Lawrence University in upstate New York, a Spanish literature and government major. "I didn't have it as together as he does. He's more social. He's got more friends. He sort of interacts with people more easily — or he's more interested in doing so. Not that I couldn't; I just wasn't so interested."

Though he was born in New York City, the Argentine soccer-fan scarf looped around his neck immediately flags Mortensen's affinity for the great elsewhere — his favorite team (somehow unsurprisingly) is San Lorenzo, by tradition Argentina's underdogs. Before they divorced when he was 11, his American mother and Danish father trooped their three boys (Viggo's the eldest) through Argentina, Venezuela, and Denmark, where his father managed farms.

Viggo's handy too — he can cook, do laundry, mend his shirts and whatnot. He spends quite a bit of time with his parents; his father is now pretty much retired and lives on a farm. Like the father in “The Road,” Viggo has an outdoorsman's self-sufficiency. "I'd like to learn more about how to fix engines," he says. "I have a 1948 pickup truck, and that's a very simple engine. But today, I think you need to be some kind of specialist."

Before the stage scooped him up, he sold flowers on the street, moved furniture, was a longshoreman. It has always helped that he looks like a Round Table knight; parts abound for the handsome hero-rescuer waving a literal or metaphorical sword. In the business, he's that worldly poetic soul who can do credible justice to gangland Russian, Sioux, or Elvish dialects. That guy who looks great on a horse. That guy who never kills anyone who doesn't need killing.

In David Cronenberg's “A History of Violence,” he is Tom Stall, an upstanding family man who has somehow, somewhere learned to break a man as easily as he pours him a cup of coffee at his diner. Called back from the reserves to star in Cronenberg's “Eastern Promises,” Mortensen is Nikolai the chauffeur, whose tattoos advertise a moderately successful, mid-level career in the Russian mafia while the wraparound shades mask surprising humanitarian impulses. The Russian underworld types he found to school him in their ways finally relaxed "once they realized I wasn't going to make fun of them," he says.

He also went for a walkabout in the Urals. "We kind of worried he'd never come back and we'd never find out what happened to him, until we'd probably find him running the country eventually," says Cronenberg, who insists Mortensen "takes the best out of Method and leaves the bullshit behind." As Aragorn, a caped crusader in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, he supposedly slept for weeks in his medieval getup. Cronenberg suggests this had less to do with any Methodmania (as was conjectured) than it was an attempt to render the costume less obviously a costume. On the set of “Eastern Promises,” Mortensen had wanted to wear Nikolai's shoes around, break them in so they'd look right. Feel right.

Western Wear

I have always loved the styles of western wear. When I was young, my daddy wore all sorts of western clothing. I think the thing that made him look the most handsome was his big white cowboy hat and his pointed-toed boots. When I see someone wearing western wear, it really reminds me of him. And, the thing is, western apparel never goes out of style.

I live in the South where cowboy boots and big belt buckles have been popular for as long as I can remember. And I really like the leather handbags with those big buckles on them. And the denim saddle jackets, like you see pictured at the left, make a man look so rugged, which, in my opinion, is very sexy.

If you're into western wear, I found a site today at http://www.westernshirts.com that you should visit soon. They have all sorts of western apparel, such as embroidered western shirts, rhinestone belts, and those slick leather handbags I mentioned - all of which are very reasonably priced. They even have cowgirl pajamas and I gotta get me some of those! And if you have kids, there are some very nice western shirts for both boys and girls.

Something Wrong At SWATcash?

I have been a very grateful member of SWATcash for over a year now, and I have made very good money there each and every month. In fact, it has been my biggest money maker as far as GPT sites go. That is, up until around the first of the year. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy being a member of SWATcash, because of all their cool contests and promotions. I have won some very cool prizes, like a Playstation 3, and an iPod Classic. And they payout more per offer than any other place I have found. But for the past few months, I have had very few offers approve, and my referral earnings have gone way down. I suspect that my referrals are having problems getting offers to approve too. In the last few days, I have completed around 10 offers, and so far, none of them have come through. I have gone to other sites and completed the same kind of offers, from the same companies, and they have gone through. I have noticed a decrease in approval at SWATcash for the last three or four months. I just figured it would pick up sooner or later, but it hasn't. I sure hope things pick up soon. Are you a member of SWATcash who is having problems getting offers approved?

Writer-director Jordan Galland's feature debut stars Hoffman (son of Dustin) as an unemployed actor who gets his big break directing a bizarre off-Broadway version of "Hamlet." But there's a catch: The adaptation is written by a Romanian (John Ventimiglia, best known as chef Artie Bucco on "The Sopranos") who happens to be undead.

Aoki plays Hoffman's love interest. Macchio will play a mob boss who ends up fighting vampires. Sisto plays a bumbling detective investigating the mysterious deaths surrounding the production. Kris Lemche, Joey Kern and Waris Ahuwalia also star in the C Plus Pictures production.

Lennon scored the fantasy musical he starred in and co-wrote, "Friendly Fire," which featured appearances by Aoki, Asia Argento and Lindsay Lohan.

Big-Budget Feature Films About Board Games? Say What?

This one comes straight from some fresh circle of corporate-synergy hell: Universal Pictures and Hasbro are teaming up for at least four big-budget feature films about board games. ("At least"!) The first mega-ad is either going to be a Michael Bay-produced popcorn flick about Ouija boards, or a Monopoly movie potentially directed by Ridley Scott. I get that American Gangster's Oscars snub probably has Scott in a pretty bad headspace right now, but c'mon!

Oh, and the outrages don't end there. These people also have the nerve to trash on a bona fide cult classic, and quite likely the only good movie which will ever be adapted from a board game: "Universal and Hasbro said they were unconcerned that a 1985 Clue film (starring Tim Curry, pictured) disappointed at the box office. 'Because Clue was once done badly, the right way of doing Clue would be fantastic,' [Universal chairman Marc] Shmuger said." Badly? Is Shmuger out of his board-game-playin' mind?

Besides, the other Hasbro products included in the Universal deal — Candy Land, Battleship, Magic: the Gathering, and Stretch Armstrong, which is totally not a board game but whatever — aren't even very good choices for this abysmal genre. A fleet of war boats getting sunk one by one by incredibly slow trial and error? Snooze. A bunch of sugar-crazed kids trekking back and forth between a computer-generated Gramma Nutt, Mr. Mint, and Plumpy? Pass.

If Hollywood is really dead set on making blockbusters out of board games, the least they could do is explore some other options. Perhaps a war epic based on Risk or Stratego, or a fast-paced chase caper from Sorry!? (Hidden advantage: The name of the movie doubles as an apology for making it.) Then again, I'm obviously biased on this subject. Anyone who doesn't reflexively hate the idea of a board-game movie want to pitch some better examples of the form? Universal Pictures is listening!

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Coming To Theaters In May!

In case you haven't heard, Indy is back in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which will hit theaters May 22, 2008! I absolutely cannot WAIT! I have always been in love with Indiana Jones movies and this one looks like it will be even more exciting, (if that's possible), than the other three! Of course Harrison Ford will reprise his most notable role of the handsome and adventurous archaeologist, Dr. Indiana Jones. I get goosebumps just thinking about it!

In the year 1957, Indiana Jones is thrust back in action, venturing into the jungles of South America in a race against Soviet agents to find the mystical Crystal Skull.

Check out the official site for trailers, downloads, wallpapers and games. While you're there, check out the Indy Store. You can get one of those brown wool Fedora hats, a DVD box set of the Indiana Jones movie collection, or a T-shirt. I didn't see a whip, though. I kinda wanted one of those. Hmmm...eBay, maybe?

Anyhoo, below is a trailer I found at YouTube:

Watch "Definitely, Maybe" (2008) Online For Free

This looks like a pretty good movie. I haven't seen it, but I'll probably watch it this afternoon. I checked the link, and it's working fine, but the quality isn't all that great from what I could see. It's still very watchable though - I've seen a lot worse. From the makers of "Notting Hill" and "Love Actually," "Definitely, Maybe" stars Ryan Reynolds and Abigail Breslin.

Full Movie

Please let me know if the link goes dead by sending an email to spiraljournal@gmail.com.

Synopsis
Romantic comedy: Will Hayes, a 30-something Manhattan dad is in the midst of a divorce when his 10 year old daughter, Maya, starts to question him about his life before marriage. Maya wants to know absolutely everything about how her parents met and fell in love. Will's story begins in 1992, as a young, starry-eyed aspiring politician who moves to New York from Wisconsin in order to work on the Clinton campaign. For Maya, Will relives his past as a idealistic young man learning the ins and outs of big city politics, and recounts the history of his romantic relationships with three very different women. On the campaign, Will's best buddy is Russell McCormack. They not only have similar political aspirations, they share the same type of girl problems, too. Will hopelessly attempts a "PG" version of his story for his daughter ad changes the names so Maya has to guess who he finally married. Is her mother Will's college sweetheart, the dependable girl next-door Emily? Is she his longtime best friend and confidante, he apolitical April? Or is she the free-spirited but ambitious journalist? As Maya puts together the pieces of her dad's romantic puzzle, she begins to understand that love is not so simple or easy. And as Will tells her his tale, Maya helps him to understand that it's definitely never too late to go back...and maybe even possible to find a happy ending.

Review
In the saga of his love life that he weaves as a bedtime story for his preteen daughter, Maya (Abigail Breslin), in Definitely, Maybe, Will Hayes (Ryan Reynolds) sounds like a man from Hope as he recounts the good old days of Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign. Back then, Will was an idealistic campaign worker straight out of college in Wisconsin; today he's a Manhattan ad guy about to finalize his divorce from Maya's mother. The Clinton name-check (along with a trip down memory lane to the testimony of former Clinton paramour Gennifer Flowers) gives this value-enhanced romantic semi-comedy a gentle zing of timeliness, especially as the wife who stood by her man 16 years ago is now the Clinton seeking the presidency herself. And the pointed reference to the curious case of the Clinton relationship announces that Definitely, Maybe is absolutely, probably more comfortable with human romantic complication than the usual stuff released on Valentine's Day.

If only Will the character weren't such a generic, pizzazz-less Ken doll of a Gen-X adult male! If only Reynolds the actor didn't vanish before our eyes even as he walks and talks! Will describes three uncommon women who have moved him from mild to warm over the years, disguising the names so his daughter can guess, in the end, which lady became her mommy. (That's an odd form of father-daughter bonding, true, but the big-city girl has just had her first sex-ed class.) There's Emily (Elizabeth Banks), the wholesome Midwesterner who feared that the bright lights of New York would change her beau; there's Summer (Rachel Weisz), the glamorous belles-lettres adventurer, whose involvement with an older literary lion (Kevin Kline) didn't diminish her appreciation for Will's boyish good looks; and there's April (Isla Fisher), the free spirit, who, although winsomely kooky enough to serve as a dream girl for Daily Show boys, is nevertheless receptive to Will's white-bread-and-mayo appeal. No reason is adequately given why Will and his wife have chosen to split up and share custody, but I assume an inability to distinguish husband from hat rack is grounds for divorce.

And so Will advances the narrative, year by year, interrupted by Maya's perceptive present-day questions and commentary, delivered with the kind of therapeutic Wise Child tolerance we have come to expect from the star of Little Miss Sunshine. The thing is, each lady under discussion would not only make a reasonablemommy but also a really attractive, realistic woman. No one's a cartoon villain, and no one's beyond reproach, either. Everyone speaks like a grown-up (er, including Maya). But in a bounty of candidates, keep your eye on Banks. In a performance of invigorating complexity (and typically sunny equanimity), her Emily is a breakthrough non-neurotic beauty, perfectly built for an election year unimaginable back when Gennifer Flowers was acting out a much older female role

Kirstie Alley Is Launching Her Own Weight-Loss Brand

Looks like Kirstie will be launching her own weight loss program. She told People magazine that even though she may have parted ways with Jenny Craig after three years, she won't be leaving the weight-loss world. In fact, she is working to "develop and pilot my own weight-loss brand that I hope to launch in 2009," she has announced in a statement. She continued on to say that though her experience with Jenny Craig was "extraordinary:" "I want to create something new that will help millions of people end the seemingly never ending fatty-roller coaster ride." Jenny Craig's VP of marketing, Scott Parker, said Tuesday that "we are sorry that she did not accept our offer" to continue appearing in the company's ad campaign, "but we wish her all the best in her future endeavors." Below is Kirstie's statement:

Statement from Kirstie

No word yet on what, exactly, Alley's new program would entail, but here's Alley's complete statement to PEOPLE:

After lengthy negotiations, regretfully, the Jenny Craig Company and I did not come to an agreement to continue as their spokesperson.

My relationship with the Jenny Craig Company was nothing short of extraordinary. The people I worked with at Jenny were first rate. The program spoke for itself as the world watched me lose 75 pounds. The last three years have been a win-win for all involved, especially all those other Jenny clients who took the journey alongside me. Just having them there with me was an inspiration and a motivation to continue. Thank you to all of you from the bottom of my heart.

J.C. now has two talented pros on board, and I have no doubt that Valerie Bertinelli and Queen Latifah, along with the excellent products in the J.C. program, will steer the ship to continuing success. I personally wish them the same excellent results and amazing adventures that I experienced as the J.C. spokesperson.

Somehow, I've also fallen into the position of "accidental" role model for, apparently, millions of people out there losing weight by whatever means. This was something I did not bargain for, or foresee happening. Nevertheless, it is something I've grown to embrace and something I intend to continue to pursue.

As for me, I am from the school of "you may not be able to reinvent the wheel but you can sure try to better it," which has proven to be a very successful attitude for Michelin tires. Even my own mentor left a major weight-loss company when she was 51 years old and struck out on her own to create her own brand that we now know as "the Jenny Craig weight-loss program." I had not intended to make this announcement at this time, but after an online PEOPLE magazine article ran last Friday, announcing that I had stepped down as Jenny's spokesperson, I found myself bombarded with inquiries from the media and fans. So I guess it's as good of a time as any to announce that I intend to develop and pilot my own weight-loss brand that I hope to launch in 2009.

The weight-loss field is wide open and not immune to new ideas and improved solutions for the fat problems that plague many of us Americans every day. I want to create something new that will help millions of people end the seemingly never ending fatty-roller coaster ride. I am especially passionate about seeing to it that our next generations are not struggling with the same weight issues that my generation has struggled with.

There was a time when America was not fat, and that was in our not-so-distant past. I'm confident that I can create something exciting and innovative: something that if all goes well, will help change a fat America back into a fit America and will offer this country the healthiest, yummiest, easiest and most effective weight-loss program on the market.

If not, I'll see you at Central Casting.

Oh, but hey, don't "Call Kirstie" just yet. You'll be on hold too long. Call me next year.

Grandfather Clocks

When I was a young girl, I used to spend the weekends with my great-grandparents. My great-grandfather had a shop out behind his house where he built grandfather clocks. I used to spend hours watching him build them. He had several of them in his house, and at the top of the hour, they would all chime in unison. What a glorious sound that was. And of course everyone in my family had one. My great-grandfather has long since passed away, but now, whenever I hear clock chimes, I get all nostalgic, and think about those days spent with my great-grandfather.

Since I grew up with those magnificent clocks all around me, I just assumed everyone had one. But as I got older, I discovered that they weren't the norm. But to me, they add so much to a room's decor, I don't understand why more people don't have them.

Today, while looking for information on these I ran across the Grandfather Clocks Blog, a fantastic resource for grandfather clocks. You can find everything from the different clock styles to how to maintain them. It's so important to know how to take care of a grandfather clock, so you can enjoy it for many years to come. If you're thinking of buying one of these beautiful clocks, but need to do a little comparison shopping, I strongly recommend you visit this blog before deciding which one to buy.

Synopsis

Ben "Finn" Finnegan is a good-natured, surf bum-turned-treasure hunter who is obsessed with finding the legendary 18th century Queen's Dowry--40 chests of exotic treasure that was lost at sea in 1715. In his quest, Finn has sunk everything he has, including his marriage to Tess Finnegan and his more-rusty-than-trusty salvage boat, "Booty Calls." Just as Tess has begun to rebuild her life, working aboard a mega-yacht owned by billionaire Nigel Honeycutt, Finn discovers a vital clue to the treasure's whereabouts. Certain that his luck will change with the newfound information, Finn maneuvers himself aboard Nigel's yacht and, using his good-natured charm, convinces the tycoon and his Blackberry-wielding, celebutante daughter, Gemma, to join him in the pursuit of the Spanish treasure. Against Tess' better judgment, the search rekindles her love... of discovery. But they are not the only ones after the treasure. Finn's mentor-turned-nemesis Moe Fitch has also set out to claim the prize. Let the treasure hunt begin...

Review
Here's a review of this film by Geoff Berkshire from the Chicago Tribune:

Newly divorced Ben (Matthew McConaughey) and Tess (Kate Hudson) find themselves drawn back together thanks to a fresh lead in their pursuit of a legendary 18th-century Spanish treasure. Ben manages to convince Tess’ billionaire employer (Donald Sutherland) and his clueless-as-a-Hilton daughter (Alexis Dziena) to aid them in the quest, but faces a mighty foe in gangster/hip-hop star/Kanye West-doppleganger Bigg Bunny (Kevin Hart).

Big question: Will this second McConaughey/Hudson match-up result in the same critical complaints and dreamy box office as “How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days”?

Skip it: Hudson isn’t entirely without charm but the rest of the cast, including the clearly slumming Sutherland, seems lost at sea. What should’ve been a fool-proof combination of exotic visuals, buried treasures and light romance between a cute dumb guy and a cute smart girl instead gets bogged down by dull drama involving strained family and romantic relationships.

Catch it: If you’ve always wanted to see “The Cosby Show” son Theo Huxtable (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) get shot in the foot.

Bottom line: Don’t bother trying to follow the convoluted plot, it eventually becomes clear that the movie is nothing but a flimsy excuse for McConaughey to spend half of his screen time shirtless. That’s probably enough to satisfy some viewers, but everyone else is in for a painfully long sit through a movie that fails spectacularly at comedy, romance and adventure.

Bonus: Think it’s possible to make a tropical adventure movie without including Bob Marley on the soundtrack? Then you already have more imagination than “Fool’s Gold” director Andy Tennant.

Owen Wilson Is Going Back To Work

Six months after his apparent suicide attempt, Owen Wilson is ready to act again.

The 39-year-old is starring in Marley & Me, a comedy about a writer who adopts a mischievous dog. The film, which costars Jennifer Aniston as Wilson’s wife, is scheduled to be shot in Miami from March 10 until mid-May.

"I'm thrilled they're starting production on this. It's been a long time coming and I really couldn't be happier on that," Marley & Me author John Grogan tells PEOPLE. "I read the script and I like it. I think it's really true to the book."

Grogan is equally excited about the casting. "I'm actually really thrilled to have Owen Wilson portray me. We don't look anything alike but I think his personality will be a great fit to my own," he says. "And my wife, Jenny, is thrilled with being played by Jennifer Anniston and so am I. What's not to like, right?"

Wilson's been keeping a relatively low profile, and this marks the first time Wilson has worked since the crisis that landed him at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

In September, the actor dropped out of the Ben Stiller-directed comedy Tropic Thunder and was replaced by Matthew McConaughey.

Miami is a familiar city to Wilson – he vacationed in South Beach with Woody Harrelson after the two returned from some male bonding in South America.

Marley & Me is scheduled to be released on Christmas Day.

Lindsay Lohan Poses Nude – as Marilyn Monroe

In what is likely her greatest role to date, Lindsay Lohan plays Marilyn Monroe between the sheets – literally – in the new spring fashion issue of New York magazine.

Recreating Monroe's legendary 1962 final photo shoot for Bert Stern with the veteran lensman himself, Lohan posed for the spread on Feb. 5 at the Hotel Bel-Air.

When it came to being nude before the camera, "I was comfortable with it," says Lohan, 21 (Monroe was 36 in 1962, the year she died) – though Lindsay does admit to having done "250 crunches" the night before the shoot.

There was also no avoiding the parallels between Monroe's tragic fate – dead from an accidental overdose of prescription medicines – and that, recently, of Heath Ledger's.

"They are both prime examples of what this industry can do to someone," says Lohan.

When it is pointed out to Lohan, who has been in rehab three times, that the possibility may exist of a similar fate for her, the young actress replies with a tinge of annoyance: "I don't know. I'm not them. But I sure as hell wouldn't let it happen to me."

Zenni Optical $8 Rx Glasses

About a year and a half ago, my puppy tried to eat my eyeglasses and left scratch marks all over the lenses. Can you believe I have still been wearing them all this time? Well, I figured it was about time for me to look around for some new ones before I go cross-eyed. While I was doing a little surfing this morning, I made a great discovery: Zenni Optical. They sell prescription eyeglasses for as little as $8. And you can add sunglass tint or anti-reflective coating for only $4.95! They also have tons of stylish frames to choose from. Zenni Optical $8 Rx Glasses has very reasonable shipping: only $4.95 for any size order! I have done a lot of searching for cheap Rx eyeglasses, but believe me, the best thing found: Zenni Optical.

**See edit below

Now, I'm going to tell you right now, this is a cam version, and the quality leaves a LOT to be desired. In fact, it's downright horrible. I couldn't find a better version, but I'll keep looking and update here if I find one.

I made it all the way through, and it was a great movie, (considering the left half of the screen blocked throughout most of it). You can still see most of the good stuff. As I always say, you can't complain if it's free, right? Watch it, you won't be sorry, cuz, in my opinion, it's a fantastic movie. Anyway, here are the links:

Synopsis: A genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between "Jumpers" and those who have sworn to kill them.

I think it's a good movie, but it doesn't seem to be getting very good reviews by the critics. For instance, here's one from the Boston Globe:

"Jumper" is about a young guy who teleports all over the world. Initially, he does what you or I might do - pops into a bank, robs its safe, and buys a swank New York apartment, where he keeps an elaborate visual log of all the places he's been over the course of eight or so years. The locations are global but the thinking in this movie is small. But eventually, David Rice (Hayden Christensen) returns to Ann Arbor to see Millie (Rachel Bilson), the girl he loved in high school who, it appears, has now shelved her own dreams of wanderlust to do honest work as a barmaid. This movie should be playing on the CW between episodes of "Reaper" and "One Tree Hill."

The script is credited to David S. Goyer ("Batman Begins," the "Blade" movies), Simon Kinberg ("Mr. and Mrs. Smith"), and Jim Uhls ("Fight Club") who've committed various dilutions to Stephen Gould's young-adult books, which were like Salinger sci-fi. Now a story about an abused teen who used his superpowers to escape trauma is now an exceedingly ordinary action movie in search of franchisehood.

"Jumper" doesn't bother exploring the psychological convenience of being able to teleport away from a shout-aholic father (Michael Rooker in a telltale sweaty white undershirt). Instead, it opts for would-be epic adventure. David discovers that his abilities have landed him in the persecuted half of an eons-long war. Sigh. On one side, David's race of teleporters, called Jumpers. On the other, efficient Paladins organized to extinguish them. The movie turns into a long chase between David and Samuel L. Jackson, the Jumper Slayer. (His silver haircut cruelly keeps memories of Sisqó alive.)

A frivolous trip to war-torn Chechnya is a moral gaffe that belongs in a smarter film. Otherwise, there are nicely imagined fights at the Colosseum and in the Sahara. The movie's small details are pretty cool. Jumpers can grab something in one location (a bus, say) and teleport it to another location where it can be used on a Paladin. Whenever a Jumper jumps, rooms shake, papers fly, the air seems a little moist, and a hole remains for someone else to leap through. When he lands (we haven't yet met a she-jumper), the new space is practically destroyed and deluged with, what, afterbirth? (Libraries take a beating in this movie.) Scientific realism aside, the technical care (the effects and fast, smooth editing) that's gone into "Jumper" is exciting.

Working with a very talented crew, the director Doug Liman knows how to keep a movie interesting here and there. He did it with the crummy "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." His "Bourne Identity" was a complete, sustained kinetic work. But Liman appears to be the sort of filmmaker who prefers ballistics and physics to people. The action scenes would be a lot more thrilling if we cared about the characters or the actors playing them. (Jamie Bell is an exception as a punk Jumper.)

But what can you do with Hayden Christensen? He's as close as we have to an android actor. It's all a chore for him. He never looks sufficiently scared, impressed, or surprised by any of this - not even the Oedipal twist with Diane Lane or the requirement that he drag the oft-imperiled Bilson from one scene to the next. Her exasperation makes perfect sense. What's with this damsel business? Her indifference to all the science here seems improbable. It's as if Larry Summers approved her part. Bilson had more to do wearing a patriotic bikini on the cover of this month's GQ. And sadly I had more to do reading it.

The Tragedy of Britney Spears

She was a pop princess. Now she's in and out of hospitals, rehab and court. How Britney lost it all.

A pop star at the mall is an eternal cause for happiness, especially on a Sunday afternoon in the Valley. One moment, shoppers in the Westfield Topanga mall are living in the real world, monotonously selecting a new shade of eye shadow or rubbing perfume on wrists, but upon the rapture of Britney Spears, they are giggling, laughing, orgasmic, already sharing their secret on cell phones. "Her legs are actually really skinny," an adolescent whispers into her Sidekick, as Britney beelines for the Betsey Johnson boutique, pseudo-punk designer of evening dresses and splashy heels worn to suburban high school proms. In person, Britney is shockingly beautiful — clear skin, ruby lips, a perfectly proportioned twenty-six-year-old porcelain doll with a nasty weave. She cuts through the crowd swiftly, the way she used to when 20,000 adoring fans mobbed her outside a concert, with her paparazzi boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib, trailing behind.

Only a few kids are in the store, a young girl with her brother and two blondes checking out fake-gold charm bracelets. Britney rifles the racks as the Cure's "Pictures of You" blasts into the airless pink boutique, grabbing a pink lace dress, a few tight black numbers and a frilly red crop top, the kind of shirt that Britney used to wear all the time at seventeen but isn't really appropriate for anyone over that age. Then she ducks into the dressing room with Ghalib. He emerges with her black Am Ex.

The card won't go through, but they keep trying it.

"Please," begs Ghalib, "get this done quickly."

One of the girls runs to Britney's dressing room, explaining the situation through a pink gauze curtain.

A wail emerges from the cubby — guttural, vile, the kind of base animalistic shriek only heard at a family member's deathbed. "Fuck these bitches," screams Britney, each word ringing out between sobs. "These idiots can't do anything right!"

Ghalib dashes over to console her, but she's already spitting, growling, throwing a big bottle of soda on the floor so that it begins to spill underneath the curtain, and then she's got a box of tissues and is throwing them on top of the wet floor along with piles of discarded merchandise. A new card finally goes through, but by then Britney is out the door, leaving her shirt on the ground and replacing it with the red top. "Fuck you, fuck people, fuck, fuck, fuck," she keeps screaming, her face splotchy and red as she crosses the interminable mall floor, the crowd behind her growing larger and larger. "Leave us alone!" yells Ghalib.

The siblings run after Britney to get a video to put up on YouTube, and some of the shopgirls run after her to hand off the merchandise she left behind, and there's an entire bridal party wearing yellow T-shirts who have pulled out camera phones too. A crush of managers in black shirts and gold name tags try to keep the peace, but the crowd running after Britney gets larger, and now the shopgirls have started to catch up to her, one of them slipping spectacularly in her platform shoes, grazing her elbow. She pulls herself up, mustering the strength to tap Britney's shoulder. "Um, I'm from the South too," she mumbles, "and I was wondering if I could get a picture with you for my little sister."

Britney turns to Ghalib and grabs his arm. "I don't want her talking to me!" she screams. She whirls around and stares the girl deep in the eyes, her lips almost vibrating with anger. "I don't know who you think I am, bitch," she snarls, "but I'm not that person."

Chapman House Drug Rehab Services

Recently, I have been going through a tough time with a close family member. You may remember that I mentioned in a previous post that I had a family member with a history of drug and alcohol abuse. Well, unfortunately, she has relapsed again, and my family is going through a very rough time right now. So I have been researching everything I can find on addiction and drug treatment.

I can tell you from all my personal experiences in the past, that it is extremely difficult to get a loved one who is using drugs and/or alcohol to enter drug rehab if they are not ready to do it. Until they come to a realization that they are on a road to self-destruction and reach out to someone, the only option you have is a good intervention. Even though we have been through this time and time again, we still weren't sure how to go about an intervention. I found some very good help at a place called Chapman House. At this website there is an extremely helpful page on intervention. Whether it's for someone who abuses drugs, has a gambling addiction or is in a deep depression, Chapman House can help with the intervention.

My family member has a variety of disorders along with the drug addiction, like depression and bulimia. It appears that Chapman House not only specializes in drug treatment, but also other co-existing disorders, such as alcoholism and eating disorders, and it's not easy to find a place like that. Their website explains the importance of detoxing, and why it should be done before beginning treatment. That was new information to me, and very helpful. There is also an addiction tests page, where one can check off symptoms to see if you have an addiction to alcohol, sex, or even work.

All in all, the Chapman House website was very helpful to me, but unfortunately, they are not located in my state. They are located in California, so if you live in or near Orange County, I strongly recommend you give them a call or visit their website if you're in need of information on drug rehabilitation.

The Importance of Having Many Money-Making Options

...because at anytime, the roof can fall in on you, as mine did yesterday! Both my mother and my grandmother were hospitalized yesterday. They are both very sick. My husband has had the flu and has not been able to work, so he lost his job yesterday. Woohoo! So our income tax return will now have to be spent on rent and utilities instead of on another vehicle for us to drive, and the car we have now bit the dust yesterday, and is no more. Let's see, what else? I guess that's it, but isn't that enough?? So...I have had to completely rethink my work plan for February.

After much thought, this month I have decided to focus mainly on publishing articles at Associated Content. It will be a lot of work, but I think I can keep us afloat for a while doing that until Charlie finds a new job. Associated Content will offer anywhere from $3 to $20 per article. If I can write 10 per day, working 6 days per week, at the very minimum, I can make $180. And the wonderful thing about them, is they payout 3 times per week, so I will have plenty of paydays THIS MONTH! Phew!

Of course I will continue my work at SWATcash and other GPT sites; just not as much as I have been. Sometimes it's better to take a break from those sites, because after a while, your offer approval rate starts to go down, (and mine HAS), and you need to give it a little time and it will improve. This is why it's so important to have many options available to you in the way of making money online. So, I will also try to write a few posts here and there for paid blogging sites too; if possible...ya know, if I have the TIME!

As I said, it's going to take a lot of time and effort, but I believe in myself and I know I can make this happen. I am a worry-wart, and I will not stop until I know the bills will be paid. That is the only way I can have peace of mind.

Life...it's a HOOT, ain't it?

Watch "The Bucket List" Online For Free

I haven't watched it, but I plan to when I have time. However, I have checked the link, and it is working and I have to say, this one is great quality and loads right up with my 5MB broadband connection. But if you want to watch it, you need to hurry, because this one probably won't be up long, (it's at Google videos). I will try to keep an eye on it, and if it gets taken down, I'll try to find another one and keep the link updated, (same with all the free movie links I post).

Synopsis:

Corporate billionaire Edward Cole and working class mechanic Carter Chambers have nothing in common except for their terminal illnesses. While sharing a hospital room together, they decide to leave it and do all the things they have ever wanted to do before they die according to their bucket list. In the process, both of them heal each other, become unlikely friends, and ultimately find the joy in life.
